Additional File Types

Hey guys,

in addition to audio, we want to also index Abelton .als files.

I saw somewhere that the Split Audio File Extension Sets section allows you to specify a new file extenstion and channel map.

Can we use this to include .als files in Library Monkey so we can search for all the versions for quick reference during live performances?

Been searching for weeks to find a solution that will include als and am  {crossing fingers} that the monkey is the last stop on this quest.

Thanks in advance,

Daysha

Re: Additional File Types

Hello Daysha,

It is true that you can manage your split file naming and maps as desired, but this would be in name only. Regrettably,  Library Monkey does not recognize ".als" files, and would not import them into the database.

We are in review of several new features, and will make sure we give this a close look.  I regret we could not meet your immediate need, but keep checking back as there is always something going on around here.

Re: Additional File Types

What do you mean by "in name only"

So would it list the name of the file, but just wouldn't import the actual file to the database.

If so that would still work.

Right now, we are manually typing the file names of all the ALS files in to an excel spreadsheet. YES, we do want to catalog our audio files... but more importantly.. have a list so if we need see what we even have as far as "Hip Hop 85 bpm Beats". Once we can see choice, no problem just using finder to locate the file until library monkey has the capibility.

What if we were to rename the extension of copies ALS file to .wav or something using a batch renamer...  and trick the system into importing at least the file name so we can associate it with custom fields and index the text content.

THink that might be a word-around?

Re: Additional File Types

Hi Daysha,

What Drayson meant was that Library Monkey ignores the filename when determining what kind of file it is - the app looks at the actual contents of the file.  And as such, Library Monkey would only import the types of files it actually understands, no matter what the filename.

The split file naming mechanism is there to allow Library Monkey to know how to associate a group of known files together as a single asset, but it has to already be able to understand each file individually.

Like Drayson mentioned, we'll be continuing to review this situation and see what we might be able to do...
